Cannabinoids 101

Cannabinoids 101

Researchers have found over seventy cannabinoids that interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. At Gift Givers, we’re committed to offering you the best products and services, so we’re happy to share our knowledge in this cannabinoid guide. You might already be familiar with the common cannabinoids like THC and CBD, but what about the lesser known ones?

Explore this cannabinoid guide to learn about the various cannabis compounds and their properties.

Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid (THC-A)

THC-A is a non-intoxicating cannabis compound. THC-A can have anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and antispasmodic properties as well as being helpful with treating appetite loss, insomnia, and pain. This is the most abundant cannabinoid found in the majority of cannabis grown in the United States.

Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (∆-9-THC)

THC, also referred to as Δ-9-THC or D9THC, is the main psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It has been known to provide relief to a wide variety of ailments including anxiety, inflammation, pain, neurological disorders, and ADHD.

Cannabidiolic Acid (CBD-A)

CBD-A is the main compound found in “High-CBD” strains of cannabis and has similarities to THCA. Research is growing on CBD-A, but it’s less stable than CBD. It can be effective in aiding nausea, pain, tumors, and inflammation.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

CBD is one of the most common cannabinoids in our guide and is one of the non-psychoactive compounds of cannabis and hemp. Due to its lack of psychoactive effect, CBD has been a major subject of research and is considered to be a safe natural supplement for elderly people, pets, and even children. It can be effective in treating a number of ailments including inflammation, convulsions, anxiety, diabetes, and muscle aches.

Cannabinol (CBN)

CBN is derived from THC and has minimal psychoactive effects. The level of CBN in cannabis often depends on the plant’s age or heat exposure. CBN has not yet been studied significantly but has shown promise in aiding people with insomnia, seizures, and nausea.

Cannabigerol (CBG)

CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabis compound similar to CBD. It can have anti-inflammatory and antibiotic effects. CBG has great potential to be further developed as a supplement to stimulate the growth of bone tissue and new brain cells.

Cannabichromene (CBC)

CBC is a major, non-psychoactive cannabinoid, and has been shown to be about ten times more effective than CBD in treating anxiety and stress. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antibacterial properties, can assist in pain relief, and stimulate the growth of bone tissue.

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)

THCV is a minor cannabinoid found in only some strains of cannabis. It is very similar to THC but produces very different effects. THCV can be effective for reducing panic attacks, suppressing the appetite, and promoting bone growth.

Cannabidivarin (CBDV)

CBDV is another non-psychoactive cannabinoid and is very similar to CBD. Although research on CBDV is still early, it has anti-inflammatory properties and the potential to assist in disorders such as epilepsy and nausea.
